About Rafia

I never set out to become a facilitator. I set out to make things work for people being left out.

Everything I have built started from one question: who are we leaving out? That question came from my daughter Eman. And it changed everything.

Where it started

I grew up knowing what it felt like to navigate spaces not designed for you. To show up and quietly adjust. To make yourself smaller so the room could stay comfortable.

I thought I had made peace with that feeling.

Then my daughter Eman was born with Down syndrome — and everything I had quietly accepted became something I could no longer set aside.

I sat in hospital rooms. I attended IEP meetings. I watched systems — designed by well-meaning people — quietly exclude the very humans they were built to serve.

And I started asking a different question.

Not “how do we design this?” But “who are we designing this for?”

That question didn’t just change my perspective. It changed my career.

I had spent years building marketing systems, designing digital experiences, and creating community programs. I was good at the work. But the work changed when the question changed.

I started looking at every project — every website, every workshop, every facilitated session — through the lens of the person most likely to be overlooked. And every single time, designing for that person made the work better for everyone.

That is the foundation of everything I do now.

Six Times I Built Something from Nothing

I did not inherit systems or step into established roles. I walked into empty rooms and built what needed to exist.

01

A technical writing department with no team.
Built the structure, the standards, and the people from the ground up.

02

A disability advocacy chapter where none existed.
Dallas MUHSEN chapter — built and led from 2016 to 2021.

03

A marketing presence copied across an entire community.
Built ICF Frisco’s marketing department from scratch. Within two years it became the model for every mosque in Dallas.

04

A UX standard that outlasted the company.
Built accessibility and UX frameworks at a company, now another one, that continue to shape how the organization builds digital experiences.

05

A special needs program still running without me.
Co-created the SMS Special Needs Sunday School and Adult program to provide inclusion, accessibility, and awareness.

06

A marketing presence copied across an entire community.
Built a non-profit’s marketing department from scratch. Within two years it became the model for every mosque in Dallas.

EmanCards

Send Salaam.

EmanCards began as a personal project and became something much larger. Named for my daughter Eman, it is a Muslim greeting card brand built around one belief: representation matters — in every card, every message, every celebration.

Cards, digital prints, and gifts for every occasion — designed with the Muslim community in mind, by someone who grew up knowing what it felt like to search for a card that felt like you.
